Pharmacy First

Get treatment and advice from your local pharmacy

Your local pharmacist can help with common conditions without needing a GP appointment. Many pharmacies can now provide advice, treatment, and some prescription medicines through the NHS Pharmacy First service.

How Pharmacy First Works

Pharmacists are trained healthcare professionals who can assess symptoms, recommend treatment, and advise when further medical care may be needed.

For certain conditions, pharmacies can now provide NHS treatment directly without you needing to see a GP first.

If needed, the pharmacist may:

  • Recommend over-the-counter treatment
  • Supply prescription medication
  • Refer you to your GP or another healthcare service

Your GP record will also be updated after the consultation.
